Moving to Western New York?  Going away to college?
If the next phase of your life will take you to another locale or bring you to a college located in Western New York, you’ll need to find a dentist near your new home.  That can be challenging, so we have a checklist to help you find a dentist who will be best suited for you.

  • Find a dentistClean, professional office – clearly, you don’t want to receive dental care in an office that is dirty or unkempt.  The décor doesn’t have to be fancy or trendy, but the facility should be clean and well-maintained.
  • Flexible hours that work with your schedule – many dentists understand that patients may not always be able to visit the office during daytime hours, so they offer appointments in the evenings and/or on weekends.
  • Friendly, professional staff – the staff should be courteous and professional when you call or visit.  It will improve your overall experience and make you feel more comfortable when you call to schedule an appointment and when you visit the office.
  • Current technology – technological advances provide us with the opportunity to offer you the very best care.  If an office has outdated equipment and is not keeping up with current technology, your visit may not be as comfortable as it could be under optimal circumstances.
  • Qualified dentists and staff – check to be sure the dentists and staff members have a solid educational background, as well as appropriate licensure or certification for the state in which you are located.
  • Office meets OSHA and CDC standards – the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) set standards for safety and health for dental offices, as well as countless other healthcare providers, workplaces, and other entities.  If you have concerns, you can ask the staff if the office meets or exceeds these standards.
  • Dentist and staff are willing to answer your questions – if you have questions, ask them.  The dentist and staff members should always be willing to offer additional clarification or assist you with any other issues you may have.  This is especially important if you have questions about a procedure or don’t understand directions.
  • Concerned with your overall oral health – when you choose a dental office, the dentist and staff should focus on all aspects of your oral health.  Of course, if there is a serious issue, that may take precedence, but it should never be the sole focus of your care.
  • Convenient location – is the office close enough that you can get there, even in bad weather?
